A former oncologist and professor at MD Anderson Cancer Center, Ana Maria Gonzalez-Angulo, MD, began her career in medicine and medical research in 2003 when the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center hired her. Ana Maria Gonzalez-Angulo, MD, PhD, currently serves as the Medical Director of Research and Senior Medical Oncologist based at the Consultores de Oncologia and is a senior medical oncologist at Unidad de Cancerologia-both located in Guadalajara, Mexico. She is also heavily involved with other academic institutions and foundations throughout Latin America and Europe researching HER2-positive disease, Triple-Negative Breast Cancer, minimal residual disease, and molecular diagnostics.

As professor in the Department of Breast Medical Oncology and the Department of Systems Biology, she oversaw programs that culminated in groundbreaking research and mentored other physicians and researchers. She promoted interdisciplinary collaboration across laboratory and clinical settings. A prolific researcher, Dr. Gonzalez-Angulo has produced research influencing the direction of breast cancer treatment, and has published over 300 peer-review papers in academic journals. She has helped others in the field understand aggressive types of breast cancer, the mechanisms of resistance to therapies and translational genomics.

Dr. Gonzalez-Angulo has also contributed much of her time to advancing policy through committee work. Dr. Gonzalez-Angulo played critical roles in the Translational Breast Cancer Research Consortium, the Cancer Genome Atlas Breast Working Group, the Breast International Group-North American Breast Group, and other academic consortia.
